Why I'm Allergic to Toxic Positivity: My No-BS Approach to Business Coaching

Running a business isn't all motivational quotes, lattes and living-my-best-life moments.

It's more like a fairground ride through a haunted house – thrilling, terrifying, and occasionally making you want to vomit.

And you know what? That's okay.

As an experienced business mentor with 17+ years in the field, I've seen it all. The good, the bad, and the "oh my god, why did I think this was a good idea?" moments. And let me tell you something – I refuse to sugar coat any of it.

Why I'm Not Your Typical "Ra-Ra" Coach: The Truth About Toxic Positivity

You've probably met them before – those coaches who seem to have an endless supply of motivational quotes and are always telling you to "just believe in yourself!"

While positive thinking has its place, too much of it can be like eating an entire bag of candy for dinner. Sure, it tastes good at first, but eventually, you're left feeling sick and wondering where it all went wrong.

I'm actually allergic to toxic positivity. Well not actually, but as close to an allergy as possible.

You know, the kind that tells you to "just keep smiling" or “think positive thoughts and it will all be ok” when your business is hemorrhaging money faster than a trust fund kid in Vegas.

That's not helpful. It's not realistic. And frankly, it's a bit insulting to your intelligence.

I cannot tolerate the "good vibes only" movement or the obsessive need to turn trauma into a lesson that you need to be grateful for.

“Good vibes only" is basically saying that if you feel any feelings other than positivity, they are not welcome.

And I'm not okay with that.

Because I think we all know what happens when we push our true feelings back down and don't give them the space they deserve in order to process them.

This approach isn't just unhelpful – it's downright harmful. It denies the reality of your experiences and can leave you feeling even more isolated and overwhelmed because you aren’t free to express your true feelings and concerns.

In the world of business, where challenges are as common as toilet breaks, this kind of toxic positivity is about as useful as an umbrella in a hurricane.

The Power of Honest Feedback in Business Growth

In my world, all vibes are welcome. Instead of force-feeding you a steady diet of feel-good platitudes, I believe in the power of honest, constructive feedback.

Why? Because that's how real growth happens.

When you work with me, expect to hear things like:

- "Let's take a closer look at your marketing strategy. I think there's room for improvement that could really boost your results."

- "Your pricing structure seems a bit confusing. How about we work on simplifying it to make it more attractive to your ideal clients?"

- "I've noticed you're struggling with time management. Why don't we explore some techniques that could help you be more productive?"

Is it always comfortable to hear?

Maybe not.

But it's exactly what you need to hear if you want to actually improve and grow your business rather than staying stuck in your current holding pattern.
